Ability to add devices in ZTE console as Customer

According to the documentation of the new portal, admins or owners of the portal have the ability to add devices. However, when as a customer of the portal and owner of it, the devices I try to add are not added. I am always forced to go through the reseller. Would it be possible to delegate the addition of devices to the customer?

I'm afraid devices must still be added via reseller. No delegation is possible

Sorry to revive this old thread, but while I agree there could be issues with adding random IMEI, there should be a way for a business to add their corporate owned devices that were purchased prior to ZTE access.
Apple allows this via the Apple Configurator which requires you have the device in hand. I am sure Google could do something similar, even if it requires us entering setup using out ZTE enabled credentials.

Aside from this, how would you suggest we (slowly) add a large number of devices to ZTE?

We ask customers to send us a list of IMEI numbers of excisting devices they want in ZTE. We than ask them to make sure no profile is auto assigned during upload. If thats confirmed, we upload the complete batch to ZTE.

The customer is than able to assign profiles when they want, even in bulk. That way, when they hand out a device (to a new employee or a swap), they assign a profile to the device. After a while, all devices have a profile and are enrolled via ZTE.

I would suggest to reach out to your ZTE partner in this.

Yeah otherwise it could be used for theft or other strange criminal things.

I don't understand this point of view. I was mainly talking as an admin of the MDM solution to be able to add our test devices.
moreover the phones enrolled by the reseller are bought by the company so I really don't see the point on theft or anything else illegal.

If you can add any device by IMEI (or SNR) yourself, it can be any IMEI (or SNR) grabbed anywhere or even generated. There's no verification possible that this device is really owned by you, so thats the reson it has to go through the reseller as they know what they have sold or even not.

In Knox Mobile enrollment you can use KME Direct to enroll a single device as end-customer, but it only works with Samsung devices.

I really hope this feature will be added in future - our reseller does not support zero touch..

And exactly thats why choosing the right reseller is very important.

We only work together with resellers with access to the ZTP (and/or Samsung Knox) to add devices, all others are entirely out of scope.

And i don't see a real reason why an official trusty reseller shouldn't go this way (especially if i have a deal in sight which would require this, so from business side, do the registration and get more deals).

Not every organization can choose their reseller freely - especially in the educational or public sector there are a lot of framework contracts with rather long terms in place that may not include such options. So having the option to do such tasks ourself would really be a big help...

We work a lot in the public sector and I noticed a rise in requests for ZTE from customers. Just for a future contract, keep in mind the add this to the requirements list.

For the short term, getting ZTE status or support isn't that hard for most resellers so you might try to convince them. They can register here: https://www.androidenterprise.dev/

And if you're current reseller isn't able to provide this, most contracts allow you to look for another party (even if just for the upload, not for the hardware). Some resellers might want to help you with this but for a fee.
