[Enhancement Request] Allow push notifications during OOBE setup process

Android does not allow any push notifications during the OOBE (out of box experience) setup process.

This presents challenges during Intune enrollment because we require users to satisfy MFA (SMS or MS Authenticator) in order to complete Entra AD device registration and device enrollment.

The inability to receive push notifications on the new Android they are configuring requires users to configure their MFA on a secondary device before starting the setup of the new device, or obtain a temporary access pass from our Security Team.

If OOBE supported push notifications it would resolve this and provide a much simpler and easier enrollment/user experience.

Same here, we struggle with some users complaining about the MFA process during OOBE because they select receive code via SMS or phone call but this will fail because the authentication can never be completed during setup. So users need to setup different ways, most likely a second device has to be involved!

This is a great idea.

Thanks so much @KSBroadridge for sharing this feature request here in the community and for providing detail on exactly the problems you are trying to solve and to @weberda and @jasonbayton for your additional support.

I'm happy to share this back internally. As you can imagine though, we do get quite a few feature ideas and so it would be great to gather more community input on this, as this will help to broaden out the request I share back. Please continue to comment below.

Thanks again,
Lizzie

Thanks @Lizzie

just to add: we raised a feature request with Microsoft support about a year ago and the declined and stated that they can't fix that because it is  an Android system behavior.

They officially stating the MFA limitations on their docs. All the way down on this page: Require multifactor authentication for Intune device enrollment - Microsoft Intune | Microsoft Learn
