Managed Play Store Web App Fullscreen not working anymore

Hi,

We've been using a Managed Play Store Web App set to "Fullscreen" deployed to Samsung Galaxy Tabs using Knox / Intune for a couple of years now. Running in Corporate Dedicated / KIOSK mode Multi App (to have QuickSupport available as well).

Recently we're seeing devices (a pattern emerges of this applying to all freshly rolled out devices, although we've seen it on ~5% of older devices as well) where the Web App doesn't open up in full screen mode anymore. No redirects are happening and all content is being loaded from the Web App URL (meaning no external calls).

What should we chase next in troubleshooting?

Check Knox/Intune settings for consistency, ensure device/browser versions match, and verify the Web App's configuration. Comparing working and non-working devices might reveal the issue.

Hope this helps! 😊

Running Chrome as the default browser to ensure the smoothest integration possible. The issue was happening on devices at random, even with identical firmware versions - but also across newer firmware (eg. Android 12 and 14).

The issue seems to have resolved itself, possibly through a Webkit update. That's a fun one. 😅

Well, the solution that worked for me was that although all the settings looked the same, it was actually the Managed Google Play Web Apps configuration that was the culprit. I went to the Managed Google Play in Intune > Web Apps > Selected the Web App > Changed the display view from FULL SCREEN to STANDALONE > Saved > Sync. After Sync was completed, I changed the display to FULL SCREEN again and synced again. That showed FULL SCREEN on both the problematic tablet and the one with no issue.

Hope this helps.

Did you ever review the version of System WebView reported on the devices? If the issue went away on its own it was likely fixed through automatic updates of WebView. WebKit is the browser engine for iOS, not Android.

Prime example of why we went Chrome as default browser, when I'm not better versed in the world of Android than I current am, it's better to stick to the "native" apps.

We never got around to reviewing the WebView version as other tasks got in the way - but happily it solved itself leading me to believe it was actually WebView.

Hi,

I am facing the same issue. Enrolled 2 new Samsung Tablets in Intune, one of them got the full screen version of Web app, but the other is opening in Chrome with "+" sign to open more tabs, which is annoying.

One Google play store in Intune, the Web App display is set to Full-Screen.

Check the System WebView version on the affected devices including both new and the 5% of old and compare it with the System WebView version on devices that are unaffected. You may have uncovered a bug or issue with a more recent System WebView version.

Which browser are you using?
If you use Edge, you could try Chrome as the default app. Then you could at least narrow down whether it's due to the app or the configuration.

Ensure the Web App configuration in Intune is correct. Check for consistent firmware and Knox versions across devices, and test deploying the app in a new profile. Hope it helps!
